I encountered much today to make me unhappy. But instead, here are some beautiful things I saw:

The faces of all the election volunteers at the polling place, most of them older, almost all of them women. Midday it wasn't very busy at all. They were tired, but patient. They gave a shit. This was the first Dem presidential primary in the state after switching from caucuses last year.

In the melted snow in our alleyway, I found two squirrel carcasses, small flattened skeletons partly sheathed in worn skins, in a sparkling puddle. I can't explain.

The days are quickly lengthening. The sky was a great expanse yet forgrounding the setting sun, same low, massive clouds that the American landscape painters must have imagined during the westward colonization. Easy to see why someone would feel that we're fleas on the hairy backs of gods.

Someone at work put about 8 purple flowers in a blue plastic water pitcher in the breakroom.

The dry vines climbing up our building have small blueberries (?) on them.

Insofar as I'm capable of gratitude, I'm thankful for Ursula K. Le Guin.
