10/21/2026 linus torvalds ai statements

hello world. this is going to be my first blog post. i’ve been thinking about this whole “ahh the linux kernel is going to slop” outrage that i’ve been seeing online. i just wanted to put in writing that i think it’s really not that big of a deal. what torvalds said is basically like “it actually makes it harder to review code if we’re worrying about whether it’s ai or not, and good code should be seen as simply good code.” i think this is completely reasonable, although i don’t think i’ll be using ai anytime soon./ / the real problem is in your average junior developer, who just tells a chatbot to make an app and uploads the whole thing to github without reviewing any of it. not only does this impact the next generation of programmer’s skills, but it also leads to vibecoded slop apps ending up in package repos and whatnot where they aren’t reviewed anywhere close to as strictly as a change to the kernel would be./ / anyways that’s it for my thoughts on the matter. i just wanted to write some stuff down for myself. see ya in the next one./ / -ryuzaki tags: linux, foss, ai
